The proposition

A record of connection, made to endure.

The Legacy Collection preserves not only how a horse looks, but what they have meant: the history carried in their body, the relationship built over time, and the moments that become part of a family.

Each commission begins with time, observation and original photography. The finished work is created at an ambitious scale, allowing anatomy, memory and atmosphere to coexist in one deeply personal piece.

The first Legacy work

Winnie.

A young Dutch sport horse, rendered not as a conventional likeness but as a body carrying history, instinct and momentum. The anatomical drawing holds the power of the horse; the human hand and bare leg speak of trust, vulnerability and contact.

Faint tulips refer to her Dutch origin. Gold leaf travels through the surface like a repaired thread: precious, irregular and continuous. The surrounding paint allows parts of horse, rider and memory to emerge and dissolve.

The commission journey

Considered.
Personal.
Artist-led.

No two horses carry the same history. The process is deliberately unhurried so the final work is rooted in what is true to yours—and the rider remains part of the story rather than disappearing from the finished artwork.

Discovery

A private conversation explores the horse, the relationship and the details that must be carried forward.

Photography

Lucy photographs movement, stillness, touch and character, shaping the sitting around the horse.

Composition

The central image, scale, palette and symbolic elements develop into a clear artistic direction.

The making

Charcoal, paint and selected materials are built slowly, with progress shared at agreed points.

Presentation

The completed work is documented and presented with its photographic and written record.

One author · Two disciplines

From first encounter to final mark.

Lucy photographs every horse herself. This is not simply reference gathering; it is the first act of authorship. Time spent observing light, motion, anatomy and touch reveals the character of the horse and the relationship they share with their person.

Photography and artwork come from the same eye, giving every commission its own visual language.

The commission

What you receive.

The artwork is the centre of the commission, but the experience and record surrounding it form part of the legacy.

Photographic sitting

A dedicated visit created around the horse, rather than a fixed studio formula.

Original artwork

A unique, large-scale work developed from Lucy’s imagery and the story discovered together.

Fine-art book

A considered edit of the photographs and details that surround the finished work.

Provenance

A signed record of the commission, its materials, date and story, presented with the piece.

Selected work · Frankie Dettori riding Enable

“Lucy Mohr is, in my opinion, a very talented artist who brings a fresh perspective to her subject matter. The picture of me on the great Enable brings all of the movement and power into play.”
